These days many programmes are also showed on TV related to the children day. Though this is the history of children’s day in India, Universal Children’s Day is celebrated on 20th of November. In the year 1954, to prevent the children for working in risky circumstances, to give children rights to educate, and to protect other rights of children, the UN General Assembly proposed a particular day must be established as a Universal Children’s Day. From that year, 20 November is known and celebrated as universal children’s day.

After 14 November that is celebrated in India and 20 November that is universal children’s day we go to the International Children’s Day which is celebrated on the second Sunday of the December month every year.  This is a joint ingenuity between International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and UNICEF.  From the year 1925, it was decided by Governments from the entire world to make a particular day as Children’s Day. All the countries mutually selected 1 June as the International children’s day and since that time it is celebrated on the first day of the month June every year.

Children’s Day is recognized by the name ‘Bal Diwas’ in Hindi language. This day is celebrated on 14th November all over India with full enthusiasm. 14th November is the birthday of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and the day is celebrated in remembrance of the great person. This day is the day to celebrate ‘childhood’ and Nehru’s love for children.

Mr. Jawahar Lal took birth on 14th November 1889 in Allahabad. Name of his father was Motilal Nehru who was an eminent lawyer and name of mother was Swaroop Rani. He was very intelligent and kind-hearted child. He went to England and completed his education from Cambridge. After coming back to India, he took part in the freedom struggle and became the follower of Gandhi. Indians will always remember his contributions in the freedom struggle. He became the first prime minister of India after independence. He was also a great writer and wrote some famous books like ‘Discovery of India’ and ‘Glimpses of world History’.

He was often called as Chacha Nehru by children. He was very fond of children and roses and according to his saying children are like buds in a garden. They are the future of our nation and need to be nurtured very carefully and lovingly. According to him, real strength of country is children and they are the foundation of any society. He was very popular among children and got the name ‘Chacha Nehru’ by them.

To give tribute to the great man, we celebrate his birthday as ‘Children’s day’ every year.
