Children's Day

Children's Day

There are great numbers of festivals in India celebrating religions, spirits, rituals, cultures and what not. But there is also a festival that celebrates children. Yes, only children. To be a child is the greatest joy in the world. Childhood allows one to be carefree sans any responsibility and usual hassles of life. Life seems one big party that goes on endlessly. Childhood is like a day to day celebration but we in India dedicate one complete day to children only acknowledging their virtues and pleasures. It is a tribute to all the children in the world. It is also our way to salute those children who win us over with their innocence and charm. They say, a child is closest to the God that a human can be. We could not agree more.

The first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, was born on November 14. He was very fond of children and was popularly known as chacha ji by the kids. Many of his pictures can be seen with children. He died in 1963 and since then his birthday has been celebrated as children's Day in India. In that sense, it is also our way to remember a leader who was a true visionary and socialist. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru can be credited with laying the foundation stone of independent India towards the path of power and glory.

Children’s day is celebrated all over the India. It is more so an occasion of huge celebration at the school level. Many children are initiated into community activities to make them aware of important virtues of life. The celebrations include cultural programmes and many social and institutional competitions for the children. Children are allowed a free rein to indulge in their favourite activities. Schools especially prepare for this day to organize song and dance programmes, quiz competitions, fancy dress competitions and elocutions etc. Many schools organize special outings for kids like movies or picnics. Radio channels host different wonderful programs celebrating the joy of childhood.
