Teachers are one of the most important people, after our families that influence our lives. From the moment we step into school, to the point when we quit education and become self sufficient, there is a teacher to guide us in everyday of our life. Teaching is not just restricted to academics. We do and we will always find teachers in every walk of life. A famous man said, that anyone who made me even learn a single word, it’s worth serving him for the rest of my life. From the time that we are vulnerable minds, teachers start guiding us and help us in moulding our personalities. As kids, we all have our teachers as ideals, the images that we wanted to be, the guidance and sensibility that we wanted to achieve. How many times we thought of thanking our teachers and could never get a chance to actually do it. Teacher’s day is all about that, and a lot more.
Teacher’s day creates international celebrations, but every country celebrates it on a different date. In India, its 5th September. This day is also called Teacher’s Appreciation Day or National teacher’s day. 5th September has been chosen as it’s the birthday an eternal teacher who also was a former President of India-Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The origin of Teacher’s day fates back to the time when people asked the Dr. Sarvepalli to come with them and celebrate his birthday. He refused and requested everyone to celebrate every teacher of India instead. That’s how Teacher’s day came into being.
Since this occasion is observed on different dates in different parts of the world, countries differ in their mode of celebrations. Companies bring out greeting cards, gift packages, books and a lot more, in honour of teachers. Students bring their teachers cards along with cakes and flowers to show their gratitude towards their teachers. No matter what mode or means of celebration is used, hopefully it delivers the honour and importance of teachers, to one of the most memorable people of our lives, the teachers themselves!
